FirstBank Named Official Bank of Carson-Newman Athletics

Community bank signs two-year agreement with another collegiate athletic program

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (March 21, 2023) — FirstBank has entered a partnership with Carson-Newman University in Jefferson County, making FirstBank the official bank of Carson-Newman Athletics.

“We are grateful for what Carson-Newman brings to our community with over 2,500 students enrolled and 21 athletic teams,” said Deborah Stepp, FirstBank Market President Jefferson County. “FirstBank has built its reputation on strengthening the communities it serves, and we see this partnership as an opportunity to support the students, parents, staff, and alumni of Carson-Newman University.” 

FirstBank’s community banking model is reinforced through its significant investments in local, renowned universities. The Carson-Newman partnership is the first for FirstBank in Jefferson County, which comes alongside its current partnerships with Vanderbilt University, and University of Tennessee Chattanooga.

“This collaboration with FirstBank creates countless opportunities for Carson-Newman Athletics and our student-athletes,” said Matt Pope, Vice President for Athletics. “Our goal is to help students excel both on and off the field, and having FirstBank as our official bank provides our Eagles with the best resources to reach their full potential.”

As part of the two-year agreement, FirstBank will have brand visibility across all sports-related events and will install an ATM in the student union on campus. In addition, FirstBank will be the title sponsor of the Carson-Newman 5K Run/Walk.

Carson-Newman University has been a part of Jefferson County since 1851. FirstBank’s Jefferson City branch is one of more than 80 branches of FirstBank and has been serving the financial needs of its customers in Jefferson City for over 20 years.
